Clubhouse’s new social media is currently viral and is becoming a conversation all over the world. Many celebrities and influencers are following this new social media.
What is Clubhouse?
Clubhouse is an audio-chat based social media application. Users can chat, discuss with others on various topics. Just imagine it’s like a podcast but live, more interactive because it can reply and it’s exclusive.
This chat room or conversation room is created like a conference call. Some are talking, some are listening. When the chat is over, the chat room is closed.
At first the clubhouse offered exclusivity. You can only join if other users invite you. If invited, a link will be sent to an SMS directed to the Clubhouse app sign up page. Clubhouse users have very few invitations to other people. Anyone can download the clubhouse app, but they can’t join unless a friend or family invites them in.
However, now the policy has been removed as Clubhouse can currently be enjoyed without an invite process.
Finally a Clubhouse Available to Everyone!
As quoted from the official blog from Clubhouse, they revealed that their social media service had finally come out of the invite only stage that they had maintained for the past few months. In other words, anyone can use this platform freely without waiting for an invitation from anyone.
Since last January 2021, Clubhouse has experienced very high growth. At first the team from the Clubhouse, which consisted of only 8 people, increased to 58 people. The number of daily rooms also experienced a massive increase from only 50,000 to 500,000. In addition, Clubhouse’s decision to go to Android also controls around 10 million people on its platform.
Not only that, the Backchannel feature (direct message at Clubhouse) has recorded that there are more than 90 million DMs that have been sent, even though this feature is only a week old from this article. Judging from these numbers alone, the Clubhouse community is sure to see massive growth now that they no longer need an invitation process to enter the Clubhouse.
Clubhouse Growth Hindered Due to Invite-Only Policy?
It can be said that special policies related to invite-only have good and bad effects for this audio-based social media. On the one hand, this will allow the app to gradually accommodate a growing user base and destroy bugs in the platform. However, it is clear that the growth of the Clubhouse will stagnate because many people cannot enter the Clubhouse directly because they are waiting for an invitation first.
This was immediately greeted by Twitter Spaces, where in the end many people were disappointed with the waiting period, so many people moved to Spaces instead of Clubhouse. Moreover, there was a long lag when Clubhouse officially entered the realm of Android.
This is also further exacerbated by the meddling of Facebook in the competition after they inaugurated the Live Audio Room. Spotify has also entered into this audio-chat realm with its Greenroom. Even other platforms such as LinkedIn, Reddit, Discord, Telegram also make the same feature on their platform.
Can Clubhouses Fight Their Competitors?
Like it or not, Clubhouse has to compete with them and of course the competition will be tougher. What’s more, seeing the big names Facebook and Twitter that have high popularity clearly has a big advantage over Clubhouse, after all the brand also has a large user base.
Fortunately, the Clubhouse was not unable to resist. They have a very fast growing community. There are even some who say that if Clubhouse has the potential to become the king of social media like Twitter and Facebook, of course with this new policy it can be achieved.
